Understanding Integrated Systems
According to the Gartner Market Guide for Integrated Systems², which names Sangfor as a Representative Vendor, “Integrated systems combine server, shared storage and network devices, along with management software and support in a preintegrated stack.”
Gartner further stated that: “The integrated system market has four segments: integrated infrastructure system, integrated reference architecture, integrated stack system and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) segment. The overall HCI segment is further subdivided into Hyperconverged Integrated Systems (HCIS), which provides both software and hardware in an appliance model and the software only segment in which vendors provide the Hyperconverged software. This is then integrated with HW by a reseller or the end customer.”
HCIS, as defined by Gartner, is “A platform offering shared compute and storage resources based on software-defined storage (SDS), software-defined compute, commodity hardware and a unified management interface. This architecture eliminates the need for traditional SAN based storage.”¹
A notable mention in the Market Guide reveals that “The market is dominated by two segments: Hyperconverged Integrated Systems and Integrated Reference Architectures (IRA), making up 86% and 90% of the revenue in 2021 and 2022, respectively.”²
